Employment - Network Operations Technician
NETWORK OPERATIONS TECHNICIAN
KEY ROLE: This position requires a NOC Technician who possesses an understanding of how to build, configure, and troubleshoot carrier class TDM and TCP/IP networks.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Perform monitoring, troubleshooting, and repair of the carrier class network components in NexGen Networks network
- Oversee maintenance of assigned systems within operational parameters
- Diagnose, troubleshoot, and correct network faults as reported by NMS events, logs, and/or customer reports
- Initiate troubleshooting and corrective actions upon receipt of network events, logs and customer reports
- Serve as the primary point of contact for all customer troubles inquiries
- Properly escalate and communicate tickets to engineering and operations groups as required in SLA agreements
- Open TAC cases and trouble tickets with partner carriers and vendors
- Work rotating, off-hour shifts in a 24/7 environment
JOB KNOWLEDGE:
- Strong work ethic and multi-tasking ability
- Able to work unsupervised, but also to utilize direction, supervision, criticism, and training effectively
- Excellent analytical problem solving and decision-making abilities
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Experience with Visio and Excel a plus
- 1-2 years work experience in telecommunications or similar fields (in some cases a 4 year degree would be accepted in lieu of work experience)
- Familiarity with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the telecommunications field.
- Experience and understanding of some or all of the following areas: SONET, IP subletting and routing, layer 2 switching, DWDM, dark fiber services and OTDR testing
- Experience with some or all of the following equipment platforms: Nortel 6500, Cisco routers and switches, Juniper MX and EX series, Cisco ONS, Lucent DMX
- Experience with BGP, IPv6 and/or JUNOS a plus
EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION
Required:
- Bachelors Degree or equivalent and 1-2 years related experience
- Additional Information
- Vendor certifications such as CCNA or JNCIA are a plus
- Candidate must be able to work in a 24/7 environment, mandatory weekend hours
