NexGen Networks Upgrades Bandwidth Trans-Pacific Unity Cable Bolster US Japan Connections

NexGen Networks, a leading global provider of ultra high-speed fiber-optic services with a distinctive customer service approach, has announced that it has upgraded its bandwidth capacity on the Unity cable system, a Trans-Pacific submarine communications cable between Japan and the United States.

“NexGen has always been committed to proactive enhancement and expansion to ensure that our clients enjoy access to the highest quality infrastructure available anywhere in our global network,” says Edward Lawson, SVP at NexGen Networks. “This latest network enhancement boosts our bandwidth capacity on the Unity cable system while providing seamless protection to and from the US and Japan in case of fiber cuts, tsunamis, and earthquakes.”

The 9,620 km trans-Pacific Unity cable system provides direct connectivity between Chikura, located on the Japanese coast near Tokyo, and West Coast network points-of-presence in Los Angeles, Palo Alto, and San Jose. At Chikura, Unity is connected to other cable systems to enhance connectivity into Asia. The five fiber pair Unity cable system is designed to deliver up to 4.8 Tbps of bandwidth across the Pacific, with each fiber pair having a capacity of up to 960 Gbps.

NexGen Networks’ enhancement of its trans-pacific connections extends it strategy of increasing presence and quality of connections to the greatest centers of commerce in Asia. NexGen recently established a point of presence in Shanghai, and last year added capacity on the Transit Europe-Asia (TEA) terrestrial cable network, which completed a proprietary global circuit that provides the lowest possible latency for connections between Asia and Europe, with latency times of 161ms between London and Hong Kong.
